Safe Travels Moving & Storage Corp

I hired Safe Travels Moving & Storage Company for a long-distance move from Maryland to Michigan with a pickup date of November 13, 2025.

On September 30, 2025, I signed a contract and paid a deposit of $1,366. Initially, the company offered a competitive quote that convinced us not to use U-Haul.

However, on November 11, 2025, just two days before the scheduled pickup date, the company conducted a QA call and increased the price by more than $1,000. Because the move date was imminent, we had little choice but to proceed.

The situation worsened on the moving day. After loading about half of our belongings, the movers stopped working and demanded an additional $400 in cash, claiming our belongings exceeded the estimated volume. If we did not pay, they refused to continue the move. I contacted the company immediately, but they insisted the estimate was “only an estimate” and required payment.

The estimate ultimately turned out to be more than 30% inaccurate, which reflects poor planning and should not be the customer’s responsibility.

Additional issues include:

We were promised three veteran movers, but only two movers arrived, and one of them could not communicate in English.

The company stated that the service included furniture disassembly and reassembly, but the movers only disassembled one item (a king bed).

The movers did not bring sufficient moving blankets, requiring us to provide our own packing materials.

We were told the move would use a medium-sized truck, but a large truck was used to transport belongings from multiple families, which was never disclosed to us.

Finally, many of our belongings were damaged during the move. The total weight of damaged items was 1,480 lbs. According to the contract’s liability terms, the company should compensate us $888 for these damages. However, they refused to provide the required compensation.
